About Martinair

Forty-two years ago, private charter flights were still fairly rare and part of a burgeoning industry, conjuring up images of rock bands and the rich and famous. It took profound vision and determination to see how these aircraft would mold future corporate travel and become mainstream sources of up-scale travel like they are today.

Martin ‘Alec’ Kempe was such a visionary. He started his first Air charter company in Richmond, Va., in 1982 with a Lear 25 Jet, owned by three local businessmen who appreciated the value of an asset like a private jet. That led other local executives to also look to private charters for efficient, safe travel. Interest grew, as did the need for more availability, and with a solid reputation as a first-class operator, Martinair Aircraft Charter and Management was Incorporated in 1986.

Over time, the fleet grew to as many as 20 charter aircraft, ranging from Helicopters and Turboprops to Heavy Jets. Mr. Kempe, an active Martinair Jet pilot himself from 1982 until 2015, had an excellent sense of what the customer most looked for—a safely operated, luxuriously appointed, customized fleet offered at a competitive price point.

In the Spring of 1993, Martinair opened a satellite location at Washington’s National Airport and maintained a bustling fleet of aircraft there until the tragic events of 9/11/2001 and the immediate mandate to close service in and out of DCA. But Martinair again demonstrated its adaptability and resilience. Despite this setback at National, we continued to serve our DC and Northern Virginia clients by quickly opening operations at Dulles International and another later in Norfolk, Va., in 2007, reaffirming our commitment to providing excellent service on the Eastern Seaboard.

Despite challenging U.S. and world events, wars, and recessions, Martinair has maintained an impressive growth trajectory. This growth was achieved while maintaining a sterling safety record and the very prestigious ARGUS Platinum rating, a testament to our resilience and commitment to excellence. The ARGUS Platinum rating, awarded by THE Industry watchdog for all things safety and excellence in operations, is a significant achievement that underscores our unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence. Martinair also maintains an ISBAO Stage II certification and Wyvern Crew Cheque, further solidifying our position as a stable and reliable company. This emphasis on safety and excellence should reassure our clients and partners of our unwavering commitment to their well-being and satisfaction.

Martinair employs experienced and trained technicians in our Maintenance Division, providing our management customers with immediate, top-notch maintenance as needed. Additionally, Martinair holds an FAA Part 145 Repair Station License, allowing it to offer maintenance to many other owners and charter operators.

Our crew members are exceptional, well-experienced individuals who attend recurrent school every six months. Martinair’s unwavering focus on safety and thorough training exceeds FAA regulations and regulatory best practices, ensuring the highest level of safety for our clients. This commitment to safety is at the core of our operations, providing our clients with the peace of mind they deserve and instilling confidence in our operations.

Mr. Kempe has recently stepped back from actively operating Martinair and has placed the company and many of its 20-35-year-plus loyal employees in the excellent care of a new dynamic owner – Revolent Capital Solutions of Tampa, Florida.
